CHAMP AWARD for 8th Grade

The CHAMP Award was created by Greg Blatt, Founder and Executive Director of Coaches for Character. This is the fifth year that Charleston County School District will be awarding the CHAMP Award to 8th and 12th grade students. This award is designed to honor true “Unsung Heroes” who all too often are not recognized for their accomplishments.

The selection process focuses on identifying and selecting students who often go unnoticed even though they have accomplished great things in their home, community, church or school. The criteria by which students are selected should be based on character, community service, academic effort, and overcoming adversity.

Nominations will be open until Friday, February 20th, 2026.

Early College High School

Representatives from the Early College High School will be here at Laing on Friday, January 23rd from 10:00 - 10:45.

At the Early College High School students from all over the district have the opportunity to take college classes as early as sophomore year and graduate in 4 years with a high school diploma and associate degree. It's a great opportunity for kids who would get overwhelmed and lost at Wando or Beckham, since there are only 100 students per grade.

Many of you have received information in the mail about this school. Only  students who are interested in going to ECHS should attend the information session. Parents are also welcome.

Please RSVP for your student (and yourself) here if you want them to attend the information session.

Yearbook Orders and 8th Grade Recognition Ad- Deadline for recognition ads is 1/16/26. The deadline for yearbook orders is 2/2/26. If you are unsure if you ordered a yearbook please email kim_holmes@charleston.k12.sc.us.
